Department: Practical Nursing
The CMT Challenge Exam is available to qualified students who receive approval from the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS). Exams are given by appointment only.
Fee – $140
Students must have an approval letter from DHSS before registering to test through St. Charles Community College. Contact information for DHSS is 573-526-5686.
Permission to Challenge letters are good for four months from the date on the letter. Students should register for the exam as soon as possible after receiving their approval letter as it could take several weeks to set up an acceptable date to complete the exam.
Students must be employed at an Intermediate or Skilled Nursing Facility and have an active Missouri CNA certificate in order to take the CMT challenge exam.
Exam dates are set by the Health Occupations Program Coordinator once all paperwork is submitted and verified. The exam consists of a written test and a skills demonstration.
Registration Requirements
Provide the following at time of registration (bring copies with you for in-person registration or send as attachments for email registrations):
- Registration Form (you can download the form here if you would like to register via email).
- Permission to Challenge Letter from the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services

- In-person (1 Academy Place, Dardenne Prairie, MO 63368) - office hours are Monday - Friday from 8:00am - 4:00pm
Tuition will be due within one business day of your registration being processed. Individualized information will be communicated during the enrollment process.
This is a non-credit, certificate exam. Fee is due at time of registration and is non-refundable and non-transferable.
