Appointment Expectations
Preparing to meet with an Academic Advisor
Academic Advising is open on a Walk-In First-Come, First-Serve basis this summer. Due to the high volume of students seeking to register, virtual and in-person appointments are not available. Please use the information below to prepare for speaking with an advisor.
What you need to know
You can expect to have 30 minutes from your scheduled appointment start time with your academic advisor during your advising session. To maximize the time you have with your advisor, please review the list of expectations below.
We understand that unexpected events may affect your scheduled appointment. If you are unable to make the appointment, you will need to reschedule. If you don’t join/arrive to your meeting within 10 minutes of the scheduled start time or do not meet the expectations below you will be asked to reschedule.
What To Expect
- Make regular contact with your advisor and don't wait until the last minute to schedule your appointments.
- Ask instructors and advisors for help when you need it. Seek help before a situation becomes a crisis.
- Follow through on suggestions and referrals offered by your advisor to further your academic, career, and personal goals. Write things down, it really helps!
- Inform your advisor of any academic difficulties or program or career changes.
- Become knowledgeable about key dates and deadlines.
- Frequently check for emails sent to your SCC email account (ending @my.stchas.edu).
First-Time Freshmen students should work with an advisor on-campus as the 30 minute appointments will not allow enough time to review the necessary information and registration for course.*
*Due to the high volume of students requesting in-person advising sessions, virtual appointments are not available during peak registration periods, typically January and August of each academic year.
Nursing & Allied Health Advising appointments are scheduled separately from general advising. Click here to schedule an appointment with a Nursing & Allied Health Advisor.
