Get moving.

Walk your way to health over the paths of the beautiful 228-acre SCC campus. Grants have helped fund the construction of many parts of the walking paths as well as the convenient trail markers that guide you around each one. You can start on each trail at any point, and all three have easy access to the trailhead marker near the Technology Building.

Other trails on campus include Great Rivers Greenway's Dardenne Greenway Trail and the Storybook Walk.

Great Rivers Greenway's Dardenne Greenway Trail

Safe and convenient access to six parks and other community recreation is also available thanks to a 1.5-mile trail in Great Rivers Greenway’s trail system on campus. The Dardenne Greenway Trail at SCC links two existing sections of the Dardenne Greenway in Cottleville and St. Peters – creating nearly 5 miles of continuous connectivity. This connection runs from Woodlands Sports Park to St. Peters Golf Course to the north.

Storybook Walk

The St. Charles City-County Library District and Foundation and the St. Charles Community College and Foundation collaborated to create this half-mile trail that champions family connection, early childhood development and health-and-wellness.

Stories are handpicked by library staff with a child’s enjoyment in mind. The actual pages are separated from the book and mounted on wood stations along the trail so when you’ve read the whole story, you’ve completed the walk. Stories change out the first of every month to encourage families to return and take a new walk!

The Storybook Walk begins where the orange parking lot intersects with the trail and continues to the right, counterclockwise around the lake. It is open daily year-round from dawn until dusk.

Rules and Regulations

Animals are prohibited on college properties with the exception of service animals, which may be required by visitors, students and employees. In addition, dogs will be allowed on The Dardenne Greenway Trail, provided they are under the direct control of their owner at all times. Pet owners must clean up after their animal.

Hunting, fishing, swimming, ice skating, skateboarding, rollerblading or other similar activity is prohibited on college sidewalks, walking trails or any college-owned property except on the Dardenne Greenway Trail where rollerblading and the use of golf carts are permitted. Walking or playing on ice-covered lakes is also prohibited.

Bicycles may be used on roadways only. For safety reasons, bicycles may only be used on parking lots when traveling to, commuting within and leaving the college property. No bicycles are allowed on sidewalks or walking trails (except for the Dardenne Greenway Trail) and no “off-road” riding is permitted on campus. Bicycle racks are provided at various locations on campus.
