Mid Rivers Review
A Note from the English Department
We have a bustling literary subculture here at SCC. In addition to the edifying classes in our creative writing certificate program, the SCC English department publishes an annual literary journal and runs an open-mic event in the fall and spring semesters. Follow us on Instagram, too!
MID RIVERS REVIEW was established in 2000 and has published writing of distinction and photography and other art by SCC students, faculty, staff as well as writers from the larger community.
The 2023 Mid Rivers Review, edited by Christina Gant, Associate Professor of English, is now available!
Please see the guidelines and submission form below. Decisions for MRR 2024 will be made in summer 2024 with publication aimed for the fall of 2024.
Please read on for more information about MRR and Coffeehouse. If you have any questions about Mid Rivers Review, write to midriversreviewscc@gmail.com or Christina Gant.

COFFEEHOUSE
Open-microphone nights known as the SCC Coffeehouse are great opportunities for the creative writer to deliver original material before a supportive audience. Anything goes -- poetry, prose, songs -- as long as it's original material. Participants sign up with Jeff Miller, the MC, a few minutes before Coffeehouse and, depending on the number of participants, have three to seven minutes to perform. Coffeehouse is free & open to the public.
Coffeehouse in Spring 2024 takes place on Thursday, February 29 and Tuesday, April 9 from 7 to 9 p.m. in the SSB first floor lounge. Free refreshments will be served including hot coffee, hot tea, cookies and cold bottled water.
This is a terrific showcase for original creative work! You can be assured of an evening lively with creativity as writers share poems and stories covering the whole spectrum of the human condition. A typical session features mostly students with a smattering of faculty, SCC alums and folks from the general public. It's serious fun in a casual but respectful atmosphere.
