Do you have a big plans but lack the resources you need to support it? You're in luck. SCC awards two types of grants – Pell and FSEOG. Neither have to be repaid, and both are awarded to undergrad students in need of financing. Check out the finer details below to get started on your application.

Pell Grants

Pell Grants do not have to be repaid and are awarded to eligible undergraduate students who have not earned a bachelor's or professional degree.

• Pell Grants are based on financial need.
• A Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) must be filed with the Department of Education to determine your eligibility.
• Eligibility may vary year-to-year depending on the Expected Family Contribution (EFC) as determined by the Department of Education based on your application results. Results are referred to as the Student Aid Report (SAR).
• The maximum Pell Grant a student may receive for the academic year, August through July, is listed on a student's FA Offer Letter. The maximum Pell Grant amount viewable on the FA Offer Letter is for full-time enrollment, 12 or more credit hours.  Enrolled credit hours must be required for a student's active degree program to be Pell Grant eligible.
• Pell Grant award amounts for less than full-time enrollment will be prorated.  Enrolled credit hours must be required for a student's active degree program to be Pell Grant eligible.
• A snapshot of your enrollment on the Pell Recalculation Date will be used to determine your award amount.

Pell Recalculation Dates

There is one PELL Recalulation Date in a semester. Your enrollment on this date determines the PELL award amount you are eligible to receive. Courses added after this date will not be considered for PELL disbursement. Likewise, courses dropped prior to this date will not be considered for PELL disbursement.

• The 2023 Fall Pell Recalculation Date is September 13
• The 2024 Spring Pell Recalculation Date is February 14
• The 2024 Summer Pell Recalculation Date is June 13

Enrollment only in Modules

Modules are shortened terms that do not span the entire length of the payment period (a.k.a MAIN term). Examples of modules are: Accelerated #1, Accelerated #2, Late-Start and Mini terms. If your first enrollment for the payment period occurs after the MAIN PELL recalculation date, then your PELL eligibility will be determined using a cutoff date equal to the final add/drop date of the earliest module in which you enroll. Refer to the "Last day to add a class" under "Mini-Mester Dates" on the term-specific PDF calendars located on the Academic Calendar web page.

2023-2024 Pell Pro-Ration

Pell Grant amounts are based on both degree-eligible credit hours and financial need as determined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). FA Offer Letters in your portal display full-time awards. If you are enrolled in less than 12 credit hours, your PELL amount will be pro-rated as shown in the chart below. Pell amounts will be pro-rated based on hours of enrollment with the exception of high EFCs in which the amount will be $0 (see chart below). Please note that pro-ration will vary for Less-Than-Half-time statuses based on your Cost of Attendance and may not mirror the chart shown below. Your EFC can be found on your Student Aid Report at the Federal Student Aid website. Your Cost of Attendance can be found on your FA Offer Letter (labeled "Budget").

How to Use Pell Grant.

• Complete an SCC Application for Admission.
• Have your official high school transcript with the graduation date sent to SCC.
• Complete the FAFSA application with SCC's school code (017027). Follow these deadlines for completing your FAFSA and you can avoid prepaying your tuition and fees:

Academic Session Deadline Fall June 1 Spring Nov 1 Summer April 1

• To complete a Financial Aid file, you will need to submit all verification documents if you are selected by the Department of Education. We will notify you via your FA Checklist  in the mySCC Portal if your application must be verified prior to processing. All verification documents must be completed by the following deadlines to avoid pre-payment for classes:

Academic Session Deadline Fall July 1 Spring Dec. 1 Summer May 1

• Submit official college transcripts if you are transferring to SCC from another institution. Transcripts must be evaluated for credit and a Request for Evaluation of Transfer Credit form must be completed.
• Sign and accept your FA Offer Letter.
• Financial aid recipients with a completed file are required to enroll in the Nelnet Deferred Payment Plan. You are accepting your award as well as securing your class schedule when enrolling in the deferred payment plan. If you decide not to attend SCC after setting up Nelnet deferred, you will need to formally withdraw from classes before the end of the 100% refund period.

Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants (FSEOG)

Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants (FSEOG), like Pell Grants, do not have to be repaid and are awarded to undergraduate students with exceptional financial need as determined by their Student Aid Report (SAR). There is no guarantee that every eligible student will receive an FSEOG. This is based on the availability of funds at each school. Amounts received can vary between $200 to $4,000 per year, depending upon funds allocated to the college and the number of students among which the funds are divided.

At SCC, the annual maximum FSEOG is $600, $300 awarded in the fall semester and $300 awarded in the spring semester. FSEOG funds are limited in supply and are awarded to students who have exceptional financial need as determine by completing the FAFSA (students with a 0 expected family contribution (EFC) receive priority). Funds may be less based on your financial need and cost of attendance.  Students must be a regular student seeking a degree at SCC (visiting students are not eligible).
