Mackenzie Dilley didn’t take a traditional path to St. Charles Community College. After graduating from Lindenwood University with a bachelor’s degree in psychology, she headed to SCC for summer classes.

“I chose SCC because I fell in love with the St. Charles area after attending Lindenwood University.” 

Mackenzie, who is now pursuing a Bachelor of Science in nursing, plans on attending Maryville University in the fall.

“Intermediate Algebra was the last class I needed to be admitted into Maryville’s program,” said Mackenzie. “SCC was a more affordable option for me and offered a wide variety of class time options that I could make work with my busy schedule.”

Although there are online offerings of the course, Mackenzie decided to take the course in the classroom.

“I consider math one of my strengths, but it definitely helped to have a professor who is a good teacher and who cares about each student’s success.”

Thanks to professors like Jennifer LeGrand, Mackenzie definitely recommends others to get their education at SCC, too. 

“SCC offers convenient and affordable options to students who are either looking to get their associate degree or for students, like me, who just need to get a few additional classes out of the way. Professor LeGrand was an incredible teacher and was not only able to refresh me in course material that I have not taken in five years, but was also able to help me earn an A in the class.” 

After acing her math final, Mackenzie is still very passionate about helping others and believes nursing is her true calling.

“Most people I know want to work with kids, but I’m the exact opposite. My dream career is to be a geriatric nurse practitioner. I would love to specialize my skillset and target the aging population.”

Mackenzie plans on graduating with her second bachelor’s degree in spring 2019.

“I hope to be as successful in nursing school as I was during my short time at SCC.”
