Daniel Gage
Daniel Gage doesn’t let his legal blindness become a barrier to his education. If anything, it has empowered him to find strategic pathways to help him succeed.
“My vision is zero acuity in my left eye, which is totally blind, and my right eye is 20/200, making me legally blind,” Daniel said. “I have an identification cane and have completed many programs from Lighthouse for the Blind.”
At St. Charles Community College, Daniel began using Disability Support Services (DSS) for classwork and test taking. Devices like ZoomText and Closed Circuit Television allow him to enlarge entire web pages and zoom in and read papers or answer questions by looking through a TV screen.
“DSS does a fantastic job. Keith (Kolander) is tech savvy and great with keeping up with the latest technology to help students. Paige (George) doubles as a counselor which makes the whole scheduling and test taking process extremely easy for students.”
Daniel will be graduating from SCC this spring with an Associate Degree in Business Management. He anticipates spending some time relaxing and traveling.
“After graduation I plan to travel to understand more cultures and develop international relationships through partnerships and business developments. I want to get right to work on building my portfolio and experience needed to advance into a career in business.”
