“I was paying for my own education, so I needed a school that would be affordable, allow me to attend class full-time while still working full-time, and had a good academic reputation,” said Ashley Kampschroeder.
St. Charles Community College fit the bill.
With dreams of practicing psychology in a clinical setting, Ashley knew she wanted to major in psychology before she started at SCC.
“Personal experiences throughout my life have drawn me to the field of psychology,” she said. “Even in middle school, I knew I wanted to gain the knowledge and tools necessary to help others overcome their own obstacles.”
Ashley said she enjoyed how individualized the experience was at SCC and how much the professors were there to help their students succeed in whatever goals they set for themselves. “That’s something that is rarely seen in a large university setting.”
She started working toward a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology at the University of Missouri-St. Louis in spring 2017 and hopes to eventually complete a doctoral program.
“I would recommend SCC because you get such a good education for so much less,” she said. “As someone who pays for their education, this was a huge factor for me. Also, the smaller classes and teacher-to-student ratio make it a lot easier to stay focused in class as opposed to large lecture halls."
