Rebecca Hatton was working as a restaurant manager in 2012 when she decided she needed a career change.

“I wanted to get involved in the healthcare industry, but I don’t have the stomach to be a nurse,” Hatton said.

Hatton came to SCC that January and started working on her Associate of Science in Health Management. Little did she know she would be spending more time at SCC than she expected.

“After graduating, Debby Schultze mentioned the HIM program was looking for someone to teach the coding classes. I immediately jumped at the opportunity.” 

Though she never saw teaching as a career path, Hatton has enjoyed her time as an adjunct faculty member at SCC. When she’s not teaching, she’s an ER and outpatient coder for SSM. 

“At SSM, I enjoy being part of a team and having the ability to grow and learn new things. With teaching at SCC, I like that I help give students the knowledge they’ll need to succeed in their career.”

Hatton hopes to continue teaching part-time at SCC and earn a leadership position at SSM.
