Kimberly Davis started her college education elsewhere but transferred to SCC because she wanted more for herself. “The teachers at my old college explained to me that I’m a critical thinker and have emotional intelligence,” Kimberly said. “They believed that at another college, I would be able to grow with my gifts.”

With a desire to get the most out of her college experience, Kimberly applied herself in and out of the classroom. From joining Phi Theta Kappa, the official honor society of two-year colleges, to volunteering her time in the community, she continues to discover the opportunities available to her.

“SCC gives its students an ability to explore, grow, create and make new likeminded friends,” she said.

Kimberly completed 83 hours of volunteer service during the spring 2015 semester and was honored as a Community Changer by Missouri Campus Compact. She volunteered her time tutoring and teaching at the Immigrant Refugee Women’s Program in St. Louis, among other things.

“I had the opportunity to understand another culture and its diverse background,” she said. “I learned about their foods, language and mentality.”

Now, she is an actress for the 48-hour film project and a member of a reggae band. She also volunteers as a teacher and music therapist. She has continued her work with the Immigrant Refugee Women’s Program, where utilizes her bilingual skill set to speak both Spanish and English while teaching reading, English and citizenship.

She holds an associate degree in arts and sciences as well as a certificate in diversity from SCC.
