SCC alum Shannon Hood started at a local college right out of high school. At the time, she focused on general education courses, because she hadn’t decided on a major.
After her freshman year, she transferred to SCC with the goal of becoming a nurse. “Once I made the move to SCC I had a plan, and I stuck to it,” said Shannon.
“I knew I wanted to work with the public, and I wanted to help them,” she said. “I also wanted a job that I would be looked up to as a leader and impact lives. Nursing has so many different opportunities for all those things.”
Shannon enjoyed the flexibility and staff of the program at SCC. “They taught me how to analyze things deeper and to be proud of what I had accomplished,” said Shannon. “I felt I got a high-quality education from faculty who really cared about me and my success.”
She earned her Associate Degree Nursing at SCC and took advantage of the new SCC/LU nursing partnership by transferring to Lindenwold University to work towards her BSN degree.
Shannon said she is proud to be the first student who will graduate as a result of this partnership in August 2015. “It feels wonderful,” she said. “That has kept me motivated.”
After graduation, Shannon plans on getting married and continuing to work as an RN at SSM. “I have a job that I love and plan on staying at for years and years to come,” said Shannon.
