For Abby Jackson, a high school guidance counselor for Wright City High School, working in education has always been something she aspired to do.

“My mom is a retired teacher for the same district I currently work in. My two aunts and two uncles were also in education,” Abby said. “I was raised around educators and knew from an early age I had a passion for helping others.”

After high school, she attended SCC and earned an Associate of Arts degree before transferring to University of Missouri-St. Louis to receive her bachelor’s degree in social work. She went on to receive her master’s in school counseling at Missouri Baptist University.

Abby says she choose SCC from the start because it was a way for her to transition from high school to college smoothly.

Now, she says she can truly relate to the students with whom she works. “I have the passion behind it,” Abby said.

She enjoys working with students to find the college that will best meet their needs.

Abby finds satisfaction by making a difference in her students’ lives by demonstrating how to make college a reality.

“I fully encourage my students to be a part of the A+ Program,” Abby said. “I try to make sure they complete the program requirements, even if they are unsure about what they want to do after high school so college remains an option through the scholarship program.”
