Information Technology

In IT, it’s not about degrees! What matters is having the right skills. Our hands-on, skills-based training is aimed at both the beginner and the seasoned IT pro. Many of our students already work in IT – an indication that we are training for the right skills. SCC's IT program was created by and is taught by IT workers - not teachers that have never worked in IT. We offer three areas of concentration:

Our tuition rate is a fraction of what a university charges. You’ll get the best training in the right skills for a lot less money! Our training is a key part of preparing for Information Technology certifications:

  • CompTIA A+
  • CompTIA Security+
  • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)
  • Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP)
  • Cisco Certified DevNet Associate
  • Red Hat Certified System System Administrator (RHCSA)
  • Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE)
  • Microsoft 365 Certified: Modern Desktop Administrator Associate
  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate
  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Security Engineer Associate
  • Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH)
  • Certified Hacking Forensics Investigator (CHFI)
  • Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)
  • vSphere Foundations Exam
  • VMware Certified Associate – Digital Business Transformation (VCA-DBT)
  • VMware Certified Professional (VCP) – Data Center Virtualization (VCP-DCV)
  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Associate
  • AWS Certified SysOps Administrator - Associate

Many IT workers today do not have a degree. What they have are the right skills. I can’t over emphasize the importance of getting the right skills to be successful in IT. That’s not to say that a degree is not worthwhile. If you do not have some sort of degree, then I recommend that you seek a degree as well. In addition, certifications like those listed above are valuable. Just know that it is really about having the right skill set more than anything else. Don’t waste your time training somewhere, if they are not targeting the skills above in a hands-on, skills-based environment. I always tell prospective students to first research the job market by talking to people already working in IT, job shadowing if possible, and searching the job ads. Determine the skills needed. Then go find somewhere that will train you in those skills. That’s what we do!

Networking

St. Charles Community College has partnered with Cisco Systems to work together to train IT professionals – teaching students the skills necessary to program routers and switches and to design, implement and troubleshoot enterprise networks. You'll learn the fundamentals of networking, routing and switching in our state-of-the-art lab by working on real equipment. The Academy prepares you for industry certifications like CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate) and CCNP (Cisco Certified Network Professional).

Transferring Credits to a Four-Year Program?

The four-year program of your choice always has the final say. SCC students find, however, that general education credits transfer quite successfully to most universities. For courses specific to these degrees, there are several options for students to transfer credits towards a four-year degree at universities that are focused on providing the right skills. SCC has specific transfer pathways set up to make an easy pathway to a Bachelor's degree. Contact Mike Fuszner at mfuszner@stchas.edu for more information.

How much does it cost?

Click the link above to see the current tuition rate and technology fee. Add the two together and multiple by the number of credit hours. That's the total cost related to tuition and fees. In addition, most IT classes require a subscription to a training platform in place of a textbook. You'll find the cost of a degree from SCC to be a fraction of the cost of a degree from a university. And we believe our training is better - not focused on just theory and concepts, but focused on hands-on skills.
