If you're looking for a career with great flexibility and skills that are extremely portable, a career in accounting is for you.
Pathways
At SCC, accounting students may choose one of three pathways:
Four-Year Path: Associate of Arts Degree
The two-year Associate of Arts transfer degree with an emphasis in pre-business will provide you with a good foundation before continuing your education in accounting at a four-year institution. The Associate of Arts transfer degree parallels the first two years of a business degree at four-year institutions. With a bachelor's degree, students can look forward to earning certifications such as:
- Certified Internal Auditor (CIA)
- Certified Management Accountant (CMA)
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
- Certified Financial Manager (CFM)
Two-Year Path: Associate of Applied Science Degree– Accounting Option
This degree with the accounting option will aid students in developing skills, knowledge, and aptitudes related to the field of accounting. Graduates are prepared to seek employment in paraprofessional accounting, senior level bookkeeping or junior level accounting positions.
Certificate CA/CS
Students have the option to earn a Certificate of Achievement or Certificate of Specialization in accounting. These certificate programs prepare students for such entry-level positions as accounting clerks or bookkeepers. These certificates are best suited for those students who are currently employed and want to acquire or upgrade skills in accounting.
