Multicultural Experience Series Starts in September

The Student Activities Office would like to invite students, faculty and staff to our Multicultural Experience Series! Engage in thoughtful, topical and deep discussions about race, equality, immigration and more. Each presenter has an amazing story to tell, and you can be a part of it!
Each event in the series will occur via Zoom. To participate, you must register. A day before each event, those who have registered will receive a Zoom link via email.
Sept. 21 - 7 p.m. - Don't Be A Karen
In "Don't Be A Karen," Chloe Hilliard addresses the pop culture origin of "Karen," the catastrophe of race riots and lynchings, feminism vs. white feminism, the 53 percent, benefits of the patriarchy and how to be an advocate of it all. Register.
Sept. 28 - 7 p.m. - THEY CALL ME Q
"THEY CALL ME Q" is the story of a girl from Bombay growing up in the Boogie-Down Bronx who gracefully seeks balance between cultural pressure and acceptance into American culture. Register
Oct. 5 - 7 p.m. - Joseph Green
Green is a motivational speaker, educational consultant, poet and former Director of Youth Programs at Split the Rock, A Washington D.C.-based organization that harnesses the power of poetry for social change. Register.
Oct. 12 - 7 p.m. - Jake Lawler
Jake Lawler is a former football player and broadcast journalism major at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. Lawler is a passionate storyteller and aspiring writer in the entertainment industry. His mission is to create stories that represent a diverse group of people and situations. He will discuss activism, BLM, systemic racism and the need for leadership within his generation. Register.
Oct. 19 - 7 p.m. - Saul Flores
Saul Flores spent three months walking, hitchhiking and sleeping on the ground and in hiding places. Experience "The Walk of the Immigrants," Saul's journey from Ecuador to the United States. Along the way, Flores took more than 20,000 photos of the lives of people and places along the way. Register.
Oct. 26 - 7 p.m. - Black and Tan
Jordan Carlos (The Nightly Show, Black Guy) and Dan Ahdoot (Shameless, Tan/Iranian Guy) engage in a funny, informative, interactive talk on race. Each show begins with their comedic take on race and current events. They will also bring in their own personal experiences to the table from two different perspectives: one black, one tan. Register.
