Campus closure simulation scheduled for March 16-19

Published: 03/11/2020

To help prepare for a possible future closure related to the coronavirus (COVID-19), St. Charles Community College will restrict access to its main campus March 16-19 during the college’s Spring Break. SCC will continue offering essential student services remotely throughout the week.

A majority of staff and administrators will telecommute during the week, conducting meetings from home via video conferencing. Only a small number of essential staff will report to campus. The campus was already scheduled to be closed on Friday, March 20, for all faculty, staff and students.

“With Spring Break taking place during the week, most students and faculty members aren’t on campus,” said Barbara Kavalier, Ph.D., St. Charles Community College president. “This proactive approach allows SCC to test our emergency preparedness on multiple levels and be prepared for any future situations.”

Students needing assistance during the scheduled simulation are encouraged to utilize email during this time and are asked to not come to campus. The St. Charles Community College Police Department will remain on campus during the restricted access period.

“The health and safety of our students, faculty and staff is a top priority at St. Charles Community College,” said Dr. Kavalier. “Like many colleges across the country, we are watching the situation very closely.”

On-campus classes and services will proceed as normal March 23.

St. Charles Community College is in direct contact with the St. Charles County Health Department regarding any local developments and will continue to follow Center for Disease Control guidelines regarding the coronavirus.

At this time, SCC has preemptively canceled all study abroad opportunities for the summer and fall semesters. All college-related travel has also been suspended.
