First-Generation Celebration Day: The Students of SCC

Published: 11/04/2020

November 8 is First-Generation College Celebration Day. It’s a time for colleges and universities across the country to celebrate the success of first-generation college students. The day was created in 2017 by the Council for Opportunity in Education, whose goal is to achieve college access and success for low-income students, first-generation students and students with disabilities.

St. Charles Community College wants to recognize the hard work and dedication from our first-generation students as they become the first member of their family to embark on their educational journey. We are so very proud of you!

“I'm going to college because it will open so many opportunities. I’m also going to college for my son. I want to be one of the best role models in his life. I want him to know that anything is possible if you set your mind to it, and I want him to see that hard work pays off. He is one of the main reasons I push myself to keep going. I chose SCC because it's affordable and close to home. After attending the college for a couple of years, I wouldn't have it any other way. I love how easy it is to get around campus and the teachers are great.”
