SCC features various cultures during Cultures Around the World Week
Experience cultures from around the world on campus! St. Charles Community College invites students, faculty and staff to visit Cultures Around the World, beginning 9:30 a.m. Monday, April 8.
ELI (English Language Institute), Student Activities and the BRIDGE (BRidging Inclusion Diversity & Global Education) Committee are co-sponsoring a week of multicultural awareness activities.
Events throughout the week will take place at various locations and times, both on and off of the SCC campus at 4601 Mid Rivers Mall Drive in Cottleville.

- Cultures Around the World Festival
9:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Monday, April 8
SC Café
Travel to other countries without leaving campus! Sample ethnic fare, view cultural crafts and clothing, experience music of the world and play international games. SCC’s English as a Second Language and International students will explain the showcases. Hosted by Dawn Huffman, English Language Institute chair.

- “STL Immigration Stories – Then & Now”
Speaker: Anna Crosslin, CEO International Institute of STL
1:15-2:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 9

Hear an engaging speaker who has helped more than 8,000 immigrants from 80 countries assimilate into the St. Louis region. Since 1978, Anna Crosslin has led the International Institute of St. Louis, our region’s welcome center for new Americans. Her experience, insights and real-life stories will enlighten all who listen. Refreshments immediately following from 2:30-3 p.m.

Come learn about countries around the world from SCC students. The English as a Second Language and international students are making posters that offer cultural insight into their countries. Stop by their display outside the auditorium all week.

6-7 p.m. Wednesday, April 10

Come learn about countries around the world from the SCC students who know them well! International students from the ESL 105 class will discuss their cultural posters and answer questions about their countries, areas, traditions, etc. in an interpersonal chat format.

- Multicultural Maze Experience
7:30 a.m.–2:45 p.m. Saturday, April 13
Field trip to South St. Louis
Join fellow students, faculty and staff on this fun field trip where we are sure to learn much about ourselves and others. Test your skills at solving multicultural clues to make it through the “maze” as a “family unit.” A debrief will allow for sharing of experiences and learning of various cultural dimensions for decision-making. Conversations will ensue as we walk to local ethnic restaurants to continue the multicultural experience. Free event but reservations are required – must RSVP by April 8 in the Student Activities office, CC102.
