Center Stage Theatre to hold open auditions for 'The Penelopiad' Oct. 2-3
Published: 09/05/2017
Center Stage Theatre will hold open auditions for The Penelopiad at 7 p.m. Monday-Tuesday, Oct. 2-3. Auditions will be held in the Donald D. Shook Fine Arts Building Room 110 on the St. Charles Community College campus. Callbacks will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 4.
Both male and female roles are available and casting is flexible. The audition will consist of a cold reading of the script, which is on reserve at the SCC library. Prepared monologues are encouraged but not required. Auditions are open to the community and diversity is encouraged.
The Penelopiad is Margaret Atwood's new stage adaptation of her own wry, witty and wise novel. In what amounts to a theatrical Olympiad, Penelope and her wronged maids tell their side of the story - how she patiently and devotedly waited 20 years for the return of her husband Odysseus from the Trojan War, only to have him repay her and her maids' devotion with heart-wrenching ruthlessness. Full of music, poetry and movement, this new telling of an ancient story echoes with the fluidity of the original mythic material and timeless resonance for today.
The show will be performed at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday-Saturday, Nov. 15-18; 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 16; and 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 19. Tickets are free to SCC students with ID, or $8 general admission and $6 seniors, veterans and students. The campus is located at 4601 Mid Rivers Mall Drive in Cottleville.
