Grab your friends, or come alone and join us for an afternoon full of wizards, comics, video games and superhero trivia. Come test your geek knowledge, have fun and win prizes in the process!

Disney Decathlon (Version 2.0) Princesses vs. Sidekicks

10 a.m. | SSB auditorium | With Brent Hickenbottom

Spanning everything from leading ladies to loveable sidekicks, this competition will utilize sound bites, direct images and brain teasers to determine which team will be crowned the ultimate Disney campus kings and queens.

Hogwarts for a Day

11:30 a.m. | Scooter’s Place

Free Butter Beer and wand making. Muggles are welcome!    

Fear of the Unknown: Gravity Falls’ Twist on H.P. Lovecraft’s Tales

1 p.m. | SSB auditorium | With Jackie and Dave Cintel

Further explore the common themes and tropes of H.P. Lovecraft’s writing and how Disney’s “Gravity Falls” connects to Lovecraft’s horror fiction. 

Film: Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them

6:30 p.m. | SSB auditorium

This film is rated PG-13 and free popcorn will be provided.

A Marvel-ous Time to Talk About DC Comics

10 a.m. | SSB auditorium | With Rachel McWhorter, English professor, and Vicky Herbel, sociology professor

This event will focus on and discuss the beginnings of modern superheroes, specifically examining Superman and Captain America. These superheroes spoke “out” about what the U.S. should do with Hitler’s rising power even before our country had taken a formal step toward war. Wonder Woman and her ties to feminism will also be discussed. Show your allegiance to the DC comics world by wearing your favorite DC Comic-Themed T-shirt to this presentation. There will be prizes! 

A Potterhead’s Analysis of Harry Potter: What We Love and Why

1 p.m. | SSB auditorium | With Grace Moser, history professor, and Corey Porter, English professor

This presentation will examine the series from a fan perspective and identify historical and literary themes that connect us to Harry and his friends. Muggles and wizards alike are welcome! 

Genetically Modified Organisms

2:30 p.m. | SSB auditorium | With Monsanto speaker, John C. Jackson, Ph.D. Sponsored by the Science Club.

Getting to Know GMOs – A look at the science and safety of genetically engineered crops and a view into the future of gene editing.
