Published: 11/02/2017
Gather your English assignments! SCC students have the opportunity to submit applications for two writing awards this spring: the 2018 E.B. White Award for Expository Writing and the 2018 Annie Dillard Award for Creative Non-Fiction.
The 2018 E.B. White Award for Expository Writing & The 2018 Annie Dillard Award for Creative Non-Fiction guidelines:
- Select an expository piece or a creative non-fiction piece based on an assignment you wrote for an English class at SCC. You can revise the original essay before submitting. Pieces written for another school or subject will not be accepted.
- Submit an unmarked, typed copy of the essay. The student’s name should not appear anywhere in the text of the essay. Please double-space writing and use a size-12 font.
- Include a cover sheet with the following information:
- The words “E.B. White Award Submission” or “Annie Dillard Award Submission”
- Title
- Name
- Full address
- Phone number
- Email address
- Name of professor and class
- Students should submit essays to their English professors. If not enrolled in an English class this semester, submit to David Cirillo, Humanities 203/English Department, St. Charles Community College, 4601 Mid Rivers Mall Dr., Cottleville, Mo, 63376.
- Submissions will not be returned.
If questions arise about either writing contest, speak with your current writing instructor.
The submission deadline is March 23. Winners will be announced in early April.
Each winner will receive a $100 cash prize, a ticket to the Student Awards Banquet in April, a certificate of achievement and a complimentary lunch.
