Published: 11/02/2017
St. Charles and Lincoln county high school students and St. Charles Community College (SCC) students will be out in the community Nov. 7-10 and Nov. 14-17, job shadowing or being mentored by a professional in their field of interest through a collaborative program, the Career Explorations Alliance (CEA).
Students will be out in the community Nov. 7-10 and Nov. 14-17, job shadowing or being mentored by a professional in their field of interest through a collaborative program, the Career Explorations Alliance (CEA).
CEA has seen a 154 percent increase in student applications this semester. Nearly 600 students will be shadowing professionals ranging from cyber security experts to registered nurses to world-renowned archeologists.
“The professionals participating are very excited about sharing their knowledge and expertise with a younger generation,” said Dawn Thornton, program manager. “Students usually don’t have exposure to a profession until after they have graduated from a trade school or college, so this gives them a real-world feel. In addition, it’s extremely valuable for our community to showcase all of the career opportunities available right here in our backyard.”
Career Explorations Alliance, which launched in January 2016, is a partnership with six local school districts in St. Charles and Lincoln counties providing insight to career opportunities for our youth.
