Camps are now enrolling for more than 85 academic enrichment and sports camps to be held June 6-Aug. 12, for children ages 5-14.
From Mobile App Designs to Soccer, Minecraft Animation to Movie Making, Masterchef Cooking to Project Runway and LEGO Robotics Engineering to The Voice Musical Camp, kids and teens will find something to inspire and motivate them at SCC.
“Each camp explores a topic in depth. It is important for us to keep pursuing students’ interests with fresh new camps and returning favorites,” said Amy Fitzwilliam, SCC program specialist. “We hope to be able to spark a student’s enthusiasm in new topics and open their eyes to new possibilities in learning and areas of interest.”
This year, there will be expanded offerings of STEM camps (science, technology, engineering and math), and STEAM Camps (integrating art into STEM offerings.) New this year will be additional camp opportunities for students age 6-8 in LEGO Robotics Engineering and other exciting themes.
Also, a Future Inventors Manufacturing Camp will allow students to explore through field trips and hands-on projects using 3D design software and a 3D printer to experience manufacturing careers. Other new camps include: So You Want to Be a YouTube Star?, Beginning Guitar, Minecraft Art, Soccer, Drumline Camp, Project Runway and Fashion Design Camp, Inside Out and LEGO Video Games.
College for All Kids summer camps received two grants this year – one from Nuts, Bolts & Thingamajigs and another from Cognizant Technology Solutions, Corporation. Nuts, Bolts & Thingamajigs awarded 33 grants totaling $66,000, from $1,000 to $2,500 each, to community and technical colleges offering day camp experiences that introduce young people ages 12 to 16 to careers in manufacturing and engineering. Cognizant Technology Solutions awarded 40 grants to expand after-school, in-school and summer programs across more than 60 sites in 25 states through its Making the Future education initiative. Designed to promote creativity and inspire interest in STEM among young learners, the initiative supports fun, hands-on "making" programs for students from grade school through high school. The 2016 grants will provide approximately 175,000 hours of making activities, including projects on electronics, robotics, computer programming, digital fabrication, 3D printing and wearable technology.
