CHOMP Regional Food Truck, Music and Film Festival to be held May 21 at SCC

The first-ever CHOMP Regional Food Truck, Music and Film Festival will be held Saturday, May 21, at St. Charles Community College. The festival will kick off the 2016 series of Food Truck Frolic and Family Movie Nights to be held on Fridays, June 24, July 22, Aug. 26 and Sept. 23.

CHOMP will be held from noon to 9 p.m., featuring up to 50 food trucks competing for prizes, five bands, 50-plus arts and other vendors, the Mercy Kids Kidz Zone (noon-6 p.m.), all on SCC’s Blue Parking Lot. The family movie, “Minions” will be shown at 9 p.m. on the lawn by the Technology Building.

Music headliner Dr. Zhivegas will perform from 7:30-9 p.m. Guests will enjoy live music throughout the day, with the SCC Jazz Big Band under the direction of Dave Dickey, as the opening act from noon-1 p.m. Deja Edwards will perform from 1:30-3 p.m., Zero Friction will take the stage from 3:30-5 p.m. and Matt Wynn will perform from 5:30-7 p.m.

“We invite all of our friends and neighbors out to support a great cause – your community and your community college,” said Wendy Berry, executive director for the Cottleville-Weldon Spring Chamber of Commerce. “We are thrilled to be teaming this year with the SCC Foundation to present CHOMP and the Food Truck Frolic and Family Movie Night series.”

There is no cover charge for CHOMP. VIP tickets are available for purchase at foodtruckfrolic.com and cost $50. Ticket holders will have access to the VIP tent and indoor restrooms, beverages including beer from Krey Distributing, water and soda; prime stage viewing; a voting token for the food truck competition; and a VIP swag bag.

Leading the events is a volunteer planning committee chaired by Don Kalicak, vice president for regional development at Mercy and SCC Foundation board member. Board members from both the SCC Foundation and the CWS Chamber are teaming to help with the events.

The proceeds from the events will benefit the SCC Foundation, supporting much-needed scholarships as well as academic and program enhancements for the college, and the Cottleville-Weldon Spring Chamber of Commerce. The events will take the place of the SCC Foundation’s Rhythm & Ribs fundraiser in 2016.
