SCC offers high-demand health care programs
Published: 11/16/2016
St. Charles Community College offers students interested in entering the health care field a leg-up on the competition with health occupations courses.
Students who complete the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program at SCC are in high demand. The U.S. Labor Department reported above average growth rates in CNA jobs at both long-term care facilities and hospitals.
Through the SCC CNA program, students can become certified in as little as eight weeks and start anytime of year – with day and evening sections available. There is currently no wait list for the program.
“This program is great for students working toward an associate or bachelor’s degree who are anxious to enter the workforce now while finishing their degree,” said Sue Propper, health occupations coordinator at SCC.
SCC also offers a Pharmacy Technician Program and Phlebotomy hybrid course that each takes 12 weeks to complete. Phlebotomy requires a 120-hour internship.
“Pharmacy technicians are needed in hospitals and retail and pharmaceutical companies to provide medications to health care institutions,” said Propper. “And major corporations are courting our current phlebotomy students. We are very excited about the potential for jobs in the area.”
