SCC falls to rival SWIC, Gentry named NJCAA Player of the Week
Published: 10/13/2016
St. Charles Community College’s Women’s Soccer traveled to Southwest Illinois College (SWIC) to try to up their win streak to five games on Oct. 11.
Despite coming out with a flat score, SCC controlled the first half. The challenge was getting the ball in the back of the net, according to Josh Tyler, SCC Women’s Soccer head coach..
"This is becoming a common theme with us – our players not putting themselves in the right spot to be able to finish," Tyler said.
SWIC came out during the second half ready to play. Ten minutes into the half they took advantage of an SCC breakdown and took the lead 1-0. Five minutes later, SCC got an unfortunate hand ball in the box, and SWIC finished the penalty kick to go up 2-0.
SWIC added one more goal to go up 3-0, when SCC rallied back and controlled the final 20 minutes of the game. Kelly Braudis netted the only SCC goal off an assist from Sydney Gentry to end the game at 3-1 and go to 8-3-3 on the season.
Gentry was named Division I NJCAA Women’s Soccer National Player of the Week.

"I had mixed emotions after the game,” Gentry said. “We lost, which is never fun. It followed by being named player of the week, but it is an entire team effort. We win as a team and lose as a team, and being player of the week was a total team effort."
SCC welcomes No. 18 ranked Indian Hills on Thursday, Oct. 13.
