Caregiving at home workshop starts at SCC Sept. 29

Participants may attend individual workshops or the entire series. Registration is $99 per individual workshop or $22 per session when registered for the entire series.
This workshop is offered for those considering, or who are already providing, care for a senior residing at home. It will also benefit professionals who may counsel those trying to make the important decision, or deciding themselves, if caring for a senior at home is right for them.
Workshop topics include:
Sept. 29 Introduction
- Why are we here? Let’s consider this option.
- Frailty
- Injury
- Chronic illness including dementia
- Financial considerations
- Impact on the caregiver and family
Oct. 6: Be Prepared – Who is an Eldercare Attorney?
The importance of advance planning.
- Advance directives
- Trusts

- Living wills
- Participants will be provided with Life Choices booklet
Oct. 13: What’s in the Medicine Chest?
- Polypharmacy
- Medication trends in older adults
- Pain management
- Vitamins and supplements
Oct. 20: Keep Moving!
The secrets to keeping your loved one active and to prevent complications of immobility.
- Transfer techniques – how to use lifts, sliding boards and pivot discs
- Positioning in bed and chair
- Ambulation – practice using gait belt, walker and canes
- Learn proper body mechanics
Oct. 27: Let’s Get Personal
How to maintain skin integrity, proper nutrition and fluids and personal hygiene, including incontinence.
Nov. 3: Connecting the Dots. Wrapping it All Up.
