SCC's Young People's Theatre announces productions for its 30th Season

The first play of the season is Tumbleweeds. The play, based on the comic strip created by Tom K. Ryan, is a good old-fashioned Western bursting with wonderful music and hilarious jokes. Tumbleweeds, a cowpoke who tries to be an optimist, struggles because he lives in the wretched frontier town of Grimy Gulch, which is populated by bizarre characters including cowboys, eccentric Indians, marriage-bent ladies, soldiers from the nearby fort and melodramatic villains ready to stir up trouble. Tumbleweeds simply longs to improve his town. Auditions will be at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 15, in the Donald D. Shook Fine Arts Building theater on the SCC campus. Performances will be Oct. 16-18.

From the earliest days of modern theater production to the present, Charles Dickens' timeless story, A Christmas Carol, has been loved by audiences worldwide. YPT’s production of Scrooge! will show how Scrooge learns to change his ways and value the true meaning of Christmas through a series of ghostly visitations. This story resonates with the whole family and provides the perfect holiday entertainment. Auditions will be at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, in the FAB theater at SCC. Performances will be Dec. 18-20.

Set in the little village of Anatevka, Fiddler on the Roof centers around Tevye, a simple, loving milkman who tries to protect his family and his way of life from a changing world. With iconic and beloved songs such as "Sunrise, Sunset," "If I Were A Rich Man," and "Matchmaker, Matchmaker," Fiddler on the Roof is the perfect mix of humor and heart. Auditions will be at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 2, in the FAB theater at SCC. Performances will be March 18-20.

All shows will be presented in the FAB theater at the SCC campus, located at 4601 Mid Rivers Mall Drive in Cottleville.

YPT won Best Youth Production 2014 for Shrek at Arts for Life Best Performance Awards gala. In addition, two YPT performers also won awards; Jordan Marshall won Best Youth Supporting Actress for her portrayal as Dragon, and Luke Gottreu won Best Youth Lead Actor for his portrayal as Lord Farquaad. 

The AFL Best Performance Awards is an event to recognize the talent in St. Louis community theater and to honor the passion and dedication of those who build the theatrical community.
