Community supports SCC's sixth annual Rhythm and Ribs fundraiser, raising $41,500
Published: 06/29/2015
“Each year our campus and our community members pull together to make this event a success,” said Betsy Schneider, director of development at SCC. “We appreciate the support and generosity to help provide scholarships and academic program enhancements for SCC students.”
Dr. Zhivegas performed live on the main stage, preceded by the SCC Jazz Big Band and a rhythm revue hour featuring performances by Deja Edwards and Matt Wynn. Both Edwards and Wynn are SCC students and/or alumni. Wynn won the college’s “SCC Idol” competition in 2013, and Edwards won in 2014. Both singers received a scholarship from the SCC Foundation.
Rib vendors included Ethyl’s Smokehouse and Saloon, Mannino’s Market and Stumpy’s House of Bar-B-Que. Guests also enjoyed gourmet nachos, hot dogs and veggie burgers by Quintessential Catering. Drinks included Anheuser-Busch products by Krey Distributing, soda by Dr Pepper Snapple Group, lemonade by Red Robin, wine by Terra Firma USA and water by Ameristar Casino Resort Spa St. Charles.
“I am proud to support such a meaningful cause with the backing of the community,” said Scott Lewis, St. Charles County sheriff and SCC Foundation board member. “Thank you to everyone who was involved in making this year’s event a success.”
A volunteer planning committee chaired by Lewis led the event. More than 150 volunteers from the community and campus helped out, including students from SCC organizations like Phi Beta Lambda, Student Veteran Organization and Phi Theta Kappa. Nearly 35 volunteers from UPS helped with set-up.
The three Main Stage sponsors were Ameren Missouri, Mercy and SSM St. Joseph Health Center/SSM St. Joseph Hospital West.
“Rock Star” sponsors included Acropolis Investment Management, Commerce Bank, Enterprise Bank and Trust, Fastlane Convenience Stores, Krey Distributing, NHC HealthCare & Rehabilitation, UMB and UPS.
“Ribster” sponsors are American Eagle Credit Union, Cuivre River Electric Cooperative, Integrity Home Solutions, Renewal by Andersen and Siding Repair Systems.
