Three from SCC recognized by Missouri Community College Association

Students Jennifer Kennedy and Samantha Schoonover were named to the All-Missouri Academic Team, an honor bestowed on the state’s top community college students. Each student received a scholarship made possible by a donation from MOHELA, the state’s not-for-profit secondary market lender and servicer in the student loan industry.
Kennedy is a psychology major who plans to earn a doctorate in psychology. She is a member of Phi Theta Kappa honor society, the Student Senate and the Book Club. Honors she has received include PTK 5-Star member and designation on the Dean’s List.
Schoonover is also a psychology major who plans to transfer to Lindenwood University and pursue child psychology. She is an officer of Phi Theta Kappa and the Book Club. She is on the Dean’s List and a PTK 5-Star member.
Andrea Compton, SCC associate professor of business technology, received the Governor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching. The award, which was presented by MCCA at a ceremony in Holts Summit, Mo., on April 8, is given to the top community college teachers in the state each year. The Excellence in Teaching award includes a proclamation from Missouri Governor Jay Nixon.
The Missouri Community College Association is a statewide organization through which the community colleges work together to advance common agendas. MCCA provides advocacy, education, information and networking opportunities in service of the state’s 5,700 community college faculty, staff, administrators and trustees.
St. Charles Community College is a public, comprehensive two-year community college with associate degrees and certificate programs in the arts, business, sciences and career-technical fields.
