St. Charles Community College students recognized with top honors at PBL National Leadership Conference in Nashville

Future Business Leaders of America-Phi Beta Lambda (FBLA-PBL), the largest and oldest student business organization, held its National Leadership Conference in Nashville on June 24–27. Participants from across the United States and two countries were in attendance for the conference to sharpen their core business skills, expand their networks and participate in more than 55 business and business-related competitive events.

Paige Bogert (Troy, Mo.), Maria Pizzo (St Charles, Mo.), and Paige Waltrip (Weldon Springs, Mo.), all from St Charles Community College in Cottleville, received national recognition at the PBL Awards of Excellence on June 27. Bogert, Pizzo and Waltrip competed in Business Ethics and brought home third place in the nation with $100 in addition to their award. The Business Ethics topic was Ethics in Human Resource Management Issues, and the event required the team to research a real case and present their findings and solutions using good oral communications skills, group collaborations and critical thinking and analysis in their presentation to a panel of judges.

In addition to the Business Ethics team, Joel Jennings (St. Charles, Mo.) also competed in Sales Presentation after earning second place at the Missouri PBL State Leadership Conference in April.  

The award was part of a comprehensive national competitive events program sponsored by FBLA-PBL that recognizes and rewards excellence in a broad range of business and career-related areas. For many students, the competitive events are the capstone activity of their academic careers. In addition to the competitions, students immersed themselves in educational workshops, visited an information-packed exhibit hall and attended motivational keynotes on a broad range of business topics.
