Tech Leader to Speak at SCC's 2014 Commencement; Distinguished Alumna to be Recognized

Fisher leads the Emerging Technologies Research Group for SunEdison developing new platform products with a 3-5 year horizon. He joined the company in 1985 and has held various positions within the manufacturing and R&D organizations. SunEdison designs, manufactures and services high-technology materials and products worldwide through two company segments – Solar Energy and Semiconductor Materials.
He has authored or coauthored more than 50 published papers and two patents and is a member of the Electrochemical Society and the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers. Graham received a B.Sc. in physics from the University of Salford in the U.K. and a doctorate in materials science from the University of London.
“SCC students and their families will benefit greatly from listening to Dr. Fisher,” said Ron Chesbrough, Ph.D., SCC president. “The partnership between education and field practice is so important, and his support of education is vital to the success of our students and our community.”
The college will also present its 2014 Distinguished Alumni Award to Laura Helling. A returning learner, Helling received her Associate of Arts degree from SCC in 2001. She went on to obtain her bachelor’s degree in communications with an emphasis on creative writing at Lindenwood University and her master’s degree in non-profit management at Washington University. After working for two local arts organizations, she was named director of development for Wings of Hope, a St. Louis-based humanitarian organization that works on an international scope to lift people out of poverty.
More than 820 students will be eligible to graduate at this year’s commencement ceremonies. Of the 227 graduates receiving honors distinctions, 30 will receive Highest Honors, 91 will receive High Honors and 106 will receive Honors distinctions.
St. Charles Community College is a public, comprehensive two-year community college with associate degrees and certificate programs in the arts, business, sciences and career-technical fields.
