SCC announces new Business Technology program
Published: 04/14/2014
“It’s important for students to learn current technology in the workplace so when they graduate they will be ready for a career or to transfer to a four-year institution,” said Nancy Graviett, SCC Business Technology Program coordinator. “We have added a new course and have updated many of the existing courses.”
The new Business Technology program replaces SCC’s Business Administrative Systems program and will prepare students for a broad range of careers in companies of all sizes and types.
Students will learn computer software and technical skills, including database applications, desktop publishing, electronic note taking, presentations, voice recognition, word processing, spreadsheet applications, etc. Students also will develop good management skills related to scheduling and organizing as well as the ability to think critically and make informed decisions.
On-campus classes are offered for both day and evening students. In addition, some classes are offered online for time and place flexibility. A few classes feature a combination of on-campus and online (hybrid) formats. Courses are offered in 4-, 8-, and 16-week formats to allow students flexible scheduling to coordinate with other demands of their time.
“I’m thrilled about the name change for the degree,” said Brenda Kearns, SCC student and part-time employee. “I do feel that it [Business Technology] is relevant to what I do in an office environment.” Kearns plans to graduate with the Business Technology A.A.S. degree in December 2014.
Registration for SCC fall 2014 classes is now open. Classes begin on Aug. 16. To register, new students should visit www.stchas.edu/DiscoverSCC or call 636-922-8000; current students should log on to www.stchas.edu/connect. SCC’s classes are $95 per credit hour for in-district students, $143 for out-of-district, in-state students and $215 for out-of-state and international students. Important dates and deadlines are listed at www.stchas.edu/acacal.
SCC’s Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) Degree is awarded to students completing the requirements of one of the career-technical programs. Although this is not intended to be a transfer degree, some courses do transfer to four-year institutions.
The Certificate of Achievement (C.A.) is awarded to students completing the requirements of one of the career programs with a minimum of 30 semester hours. Certificate programs require a shorter time commitment, and can be applied to the Associate of Applied Science degree.
