SCC to host International Education Week events Nov. 18-19

Published: 11/02/2014

“International Education Week is a great opportunity to not only highlight opportunities for students to study abroad, but also to discuss global issues right here on our campus.  Many students and community members may not have the exposure to the foreign films we show, or the topics that are discussed, and this is an annual event that broadens the perspective of all who attend,” said Kelley Pfeiffer, associate dean of Student Success.

“Human Trafficking and Its Relationship to the Status of Women: A Post-New Delhi Gang Rape Movement”

1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 18

This presentation will examine the effectiveness of some of the post-New Delhi gang rape women activists groups that have sprouted everywhere and are gathering momentum. What would it take to get the attention of policy makers, the legal system and the government to take action and pay attention to women’s issues and the fair implementation of existing laws, while simultaneously raising the levels of collective social awareness regarding atrocities that are committed against women? In the end, will these conversations be adequate to change the archaic system that has repeatedly been insensitive to women’s issues (to put it mildly), and be able to change the attitudes of the multitudes that tends to be apathetic to women’s rights and equality issues?
