SCC to Offer Hybrid Political and Communication Course Focused on 2012 Presidential Election
Published: 08/01/2012
Paul Roesler, professor of political science, and Darren Osburn, professor of communication, will teach two perspectives of one topic in the course.
“The purpose of this class is to improve students’ understanding of the U.S. electoral process, especially the relationship between media and politics,” said Osburn. “Ultimately, we want to help students, and the community, become more engaged citizens.”
The hybrid course will be split into two sections, in which students must co-enroll: POL 299: Elections and the Media, taught by Roesler on Tuesdays from 11:30 a.m.-12:50 p.m., and COM 290: Media and the 2012 Campaign, taught by Osburn on Thursdays from 11:30 a.m.-12:50 p.m. Each class is worth three credit hours, and they must be taken simultaneously for a total of six credit hours. The class begins Tuesday, Aug. 21.
In a hybrid course, students are expected to do a considerable amount of work independently, in an online setting using the Internet and Moodle, the college’s learning management system.
