College for All Kids Summer Camps at SCC Now Enrolling

Published: 05/14/2012

“College for All Kids” camps are educationally based and give students a chance to experience life on a college campus. They are designed to stimulate curiosity and motivate kids to achieve their highest potential. Half- and full-day camps are available, along with before- and after-care programs.

SCC employee Laura Powell had all three of her kids enrolled in various camps last summer. “They especially loved the theater camps, and they thought it was cool to eat lunch in the SCC cafeteria,” she said. “They got to do a little bit of everything, and there was something new and different for them to experience every day.”

Young children ages 4-6 will act out their favorite Disney characters in “It’s a Disney Extravaganza,” or learn to dance like a Disney princess in “Disney Dance Princess.” Other camps include “Animal Adventures,” “Under the Sea Art Adventures” and “Kinder Science.”

Kids ages 7-12 will engage in building a robot in “Lego Robotics” or learn all about “Harry Potter” the Hogwarts way by making magical wands, secret potions and the proper care for magical creatures. Students may also join the “CSI SCC” team to sniff out forgeries and fakes or create their own superheroes in the new “Superhero Camp.” Other camp themes are American Girl, 3D computer animation, dance, art, printmaking, theater, design, physics, biology and digital photography.

New this summer are the “Shoot and Score” basketball camps for boys and girls, ages 10-14. The SCC men’s and women’s soccer coaches will again teach “SCC Soccer Kids” for kids ages 5-14, which will be held on SCC’s collegiate size soccer field. There are also two volleyball camps for middle school students, including “Bump, Set, Spike!” and “Bump, Set, Spike! Level Two” for those with one to two years of experience.

Middle and high school students (up to age 16) can experience the fun of musical theater in “Broadway Musical Theater Revue,” or come up with their own murder mystery in “Murder Mystery Camp.” Students will also learn what goes on behind the scenes in “Lights, Camera, Action: Movie Production Camp,” and make their own mini-movie. Other camps include “Comedy Theater Camp” and “Irish Riverdance.” Many of the theater camps will host performances for friends and family on the last day of camp.

The camps will be held Monday-Friday, and the costs range in price, from $95-$225. For more information on camps and summer programs at SCC, contact the SCC Continuing Education Department at 636-922-8233 or visit www.stchas.edu/summercamps.
