Center Stage Theatre to Present "The Drowsy Chaperone" July 26-31 at SCC
Published: 07/11/2011
The show will be performed at 8 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday, July 26-30, and at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 31. There will be a high school matinee performance at 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 28.
This infectious musical-within-a-musical pays tribute to the jazz-age shows of the 1920s. It celebrates the power those shows had to transport audiences into a dazzling fantasy and lift spirits in times of sadness. When a die-hard musical fan plays his favorite cast album on his turntable (a 1928 smash hit called The Drowsy Chaperone), the show literally bursts to life in his living room. The audience is instantly immersed in the glamorous and hilarious tale of a celebrity bride and her uproarious wedding day.
The play is based off the book by Bob Martin and Don McKellar, with music and lyrics by Lisa Lambert and Greg Morrison.
Cast members include: Jen Kappler as Mrs. Tottendale, David Moreshead as Robert Martin, Josh Rowland as George, Brian Kappler as Feldzieg, Rebecca Loughridge as Kitty, Peter Colombatto as Aldolpho, Erin Norlie as Janet Van De Graaff, Melissa Whitworth as The Drowsy Chaperone, Selena Steed as Trix the Aviatrix, Ryan Cooper as Man in Chair, Jeffrey Dent as Underling, Troyer Coultas as Gangster no. 1, Zach Groeblinghoff as Gangster no. 2 and Jeff Roop and Zach Mielke as the Superintendant.
The play will be directed and choreographed by Lynne Snyder, musical direction by Gene Ditch, with set and lighting design by Jeff Roop and costume design by Lonna Wilke. Also on the show’s production staff are Allison Summers, stage manager; Ashley Yohn, assistant stage manager; and Rebecca Loughridge, dance captain.
Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for seniors and college students with ID. Tickets will be offered at a special reduced price of $4 for everyone on Wednesday, July 27.
