Free Workshops Aim to Help Non-Traditional Students Prepare For College
Published: 03/15/2011
SCC hosts several free Returning Learners Workshops throughout the year on its campus, in cooperation with the SCC Returning Learners support group. Returning Learners provides “non-traditional,” older students a place to turn to for help and advice.
“Many people are uncertain about taking that first step in returning to school,” said Andrea Crouch, Returning Learners advisor and SCC academic counselor. “These workshops explore the educational opportunities that are available to prepare returning learners for a new career or a lifestyle change.”
The workshop will cover goal setting and decision-making, self-confidence building, study skills, career exploration, assertiveness training, time and stress management, and financial assistance information. Participants will also learn about SCC programs, courses, Returning Learners support group and other services for adults.
Career and academic counselors will discuss the logistics and goals of going back to school as adults, parents and professionals. Participants will learn about the various ways to pay for college, such as financial aid and scholarships.
The March workshop will be held in Room 1204 in the Administration Building on the SCC campus, 4601 Mid Rivers Mall Dr. in Cottleville.
For more information or to register for the workshop, call Andrea Crouch at 636-922-8248. The workshop is free, but reservations are required.
