College For All Kids Summer Camps at SCC Now Enrolling
Published: 03/10/2011
Young children ages 4-6 will experience “Under the Sea Art Adventures” in a week of creating mosaics and sea creatures using multimedia art or go on an “Animal Adventure” to create lions and tigers and bears. Other themed classes feature reading, art, theater, music and Spanish. Participants will enjoy their first experience on a college campus, participating in age appropriate classes and recreation.
Kids ages 7-12 will engage in building a robot in “Lego Robotics” or test their tracking skills using handheld GPS units to find buried caches in “Geocaching – The Search for Treasure.” Students may join the “CSI SCC” team to sniff out forgeries and fakes or solve mysteries through reading in “Young Detectives Reading Adventures.” They might even become the next Picasso or Walt Disney in “Extreme Art Academy.” Students will learn about animals, how to hip hop dance, how to build a rocket, explore digital photography and much more in a variety of camps designed to stimulate curiosity and motivate kids to achieve their highest potential.
Soccer camps for kids ages 5-12 will be offered by the SCC men’s and women’s soccer coaches and held on SCC’s collegiate size soccer field. New this year is a volleyball camp for kids ages 11-14 on SCC’s sand volleyball court.
Middle and high school students (up to age 16) can be a part of a one-of-a-kind musical experience based on the hottest TV show sweeping the nation. In “Camp Glee,” students will be taught to dance and sing by a professional director and choreographer, which will culminate with a performance at the end of the program. They can join Percy Jackson and his friends as mythological monsters and the gods of Mount Olympus walk straight out of the pages of Percy’s Greek mythology textbook right onto the stage! Students will also have the opportunity to design their own video games through “Computer Game Design” and build their own computer in “Camp Tech.” Performing arts camps are also available, including “Comedy Theater Camp,” “Suzuki Summer Strings” and “School of Rock Guitar Camp.”
The camps will be held Monday-Friday, and before and after care is available.
The cost for camps range in price, from $95-$209. For more information on camps and summer programs at SCC, contact the SCC Continuing Education office at 636-922-8233 or visit www.stchas.edu/learnforlife.
