SCC Chemistry Professor Receives 2010 Emerson Excellence in Teaching Award

Bookstaver, of St. Louis, Mo., has been teaching at SCC since 1994, first as an adjunct faculty member, and full-time since 1998. He was voted Outstanding Faculty Member of the Year in 2010 by SCC’s faculty. Prior to SCC he taught chemistry at Ursuline Academy in St. Louis County. He is a member of the American Chemical Society.

Bookstaver has a Ph.D. in organic chemistry, a Master of Arts degree in chemistry from Washington University and Bachelor of Arts degrees in both philosophy from Cardinal Glennon College and chemistry from the University of Missouri-St. Louis.

The Emerson Excellence in Teaching Awards program recognizes more than 100 teachers from kindergarten to college professors who are examples of excellence in the field of education in the St. Louis metropolitan area. The awards ceremony was held in November at the Sheldon Concert Hall.
