SCC to Hold Open Auditions for "Guys and Dolls" May 17-18
Published: 05/04/2010
Set in mythical and vibrant New York City of the mid-20th century, “Guys and Dolls” is an oddball romantic musical comedy that soars with the spirit of Broadway where all men seem to be “on the make” as gamblers or gangsters and all women are “dolls.”
Director Lynne Snyder will hold open vocal and acting auditions at 7 p.m. Monday-Tuesday, May 17-18, and dancing auditions at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 19, in the Donald D. Shook Fine Arts Building Theater on the SCC campus in Cottleville. Center Stage Theatre invites SCC students and community residents to audition. There are nine leading roles, including six men and three women. Several other supporting and chorus roles are available.
“Guys and Dolls” will be performed in the theater of the Fine Arts Building at 8 p.m. Wednesday-Saturday, July 20-24, and 2 p.m. Sunday, July 25.
Rehearsals will begin June 1, with a read-through and possible music rehearsals sometime the week before. Those auditioning must have Monday-Friday evenings free, as well as the entire week before performances begin. A script is on reserve in the library.
For auditions, bring a prepared Broadway-style show tune (16 bars) with sheet music and be prepared to read from the script. Monologues are encouraged but not required.
