SCC Expands GED Classes to O'Fallon

Published: 12/02/2010

Students are required to appear in person in Room 158 in Timberland High School at 6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 3, and Wednesday, Jan. 5, in order to register for the GED classes. Students who are not present on Jan. 3 will not be admitted on Jan. 5 for registration.

Classes begin Monday, Jan. 10, and will be every Monday/Wednesday from 6-9 p.m. All classes will be held at the NECAC office, located at 3400 Meadow Pointe Drive in O’Fallon, Mo.

“The new O’Fallon location on the site of the Northeast Community Action Corporation will fill the need for evening GED classes in the area,” said Diane Schroeder, associate dean of extended learning. “We have successfully partnered with NECAC in the past and we appreciate the support they have given us in providing free GED instruction to local residents.”

Registration dates for the O’Fallon location for the rest of the year include: Jan. 24, 26; Feb. 21, 23; Mar. 28, 30; and April 25, 27.

SCC offers free GED preparation classes at several other locations throughout St. Charles, Lincoln, Pike and Warren counties. To see a list of locations, go to www.stchas.edu/ael.

The GED classes at SCC provide preparation for the GED tests as well as basic instruction in reading, writing and math. One-on-one tutoring assistance, official GED practice tests and computer-aided instruction are all benefits of the GED program at SCC.

Students must be at least 17 years of age to enroll in GED classes. Enrollment is scheduled monthly at all locations. Students are given an initial assessment test to determine GED test readiness and to provide information for an individual learning plan. Students work at their own pace and must commit themselves to attend two full class meetings per week for at least one month of classroom instruction.
