SCC Women's Soccer Team Named Region XVI Champions, Several Players Receive All-Region and All-Conference Honors

The women’s team continued play in the District C tournament in Council Bluffs, Iowa, and fell 2-1 to rival Lewis and Clark Community College in the semifinal match Nov. 5. The women’s team finished the season with an overall record of 15-5.
“This team represents the most determined group of women I’ve ever coached,” said Emily Holbrook, women’s soccer head coach. “They never stopped fighting for each other, and that’s what it’s all about. I’m very proud of them.”
Holbrook was named the 2010 NJCAA Region XVI Coach of the Year, and several players from this year’s squad received awards from Region XVI and the Midwest Community College Athletic Conference (MCCAC).
Sophomore midfielder and co-captain Alexis Baez, of St. Charles, Mo., earned First Team All-Region honors for the second year in a row. Freshman striker Ashley Burbank, of St. Peters, Mo., earned First Team All-Region and Second Team All-MCCAC honors as the Cougars’ leading goal scorer with 13 goals. Freshman defenseman Anna Recer, of St. Charles, Mo., also earned First Team All-Region honors.
Freshman midfielder Melissa Beste, of Washington, Mo., earned Second Team All-Region honors with the most assists (10) on the team. Freshman defenseman Kelsie Ehlers, of St. Charles, Mo., also received Second Team All-Region honors, as well as First Team All-MCCAC honors.
Freshman midfielder Megan Huffman, of St. Charles, Mo., earned First Team All-MCCAC honors. Sophomore strikers Cayla Pisciotta, of Florissant, Mo., and Emily Kersting, of Wentzville, Mo., were named to the Second Team All-MCCAC.
