Judge William Lohmar to Replace Son on SCC Board of Trustees
Published: 11/17/2010
Judge Lohmar will replace his son, Timothy Lohmar, who is leaving the college's Board effective Dec. 31. On Nov. 2, Timothy was elected as a judge in the 11th Circuit, the position from which William is retiring at the end of year.
The SCC Board of Trustees announced the appointment at the October board meeting. Judge Lohmar will be sworn in at the Jan. 10 SCC Board meeting. His appointment will continue through April 2012 when the remaining two years of Timothy Lohmar’s elected seat will be on the countywide ballot.
“In an unusual twist of fate, the college will lose a valuable Board member in Timothy Lohmar, but we will benefit by the appointment of another respected member of the community, Judge William Lohmar, Tim’s father,” Pundmann said. There have been several instances when a family member has replaced a Missouri community college Board of Trustees member in the case of a death, but this is the first known son-father sequence of service, college officials said.
“Tim’s contributions to the board, including service as a past Board president, have been exemplary. I have no doubt the college will receive equal stewardship from his father, Judge William Lohmar,” said John McGuire, college president.
Judge Lohmar served the 11th Circuit Court from 1978-1996 and 2004-2010. He was a partner in the law firm of Lohmar & Lohmar from 1997-2003. He began his judicial career in 1974 as a Magistrate Judge in St. Charles County. Judge Lohmar will join the firm of Lohmar and Staebell L.L.C. in January.
As an advocate of education and professional development, Judge Lohmar has served as an instructor at Lindenwood University and the former St. Mary’s College in O’Fallon, Mo. His service also has included positions as instructor and panelist for both the National Judicial College in Reno, Nev., and the State of Missouri Judicial Education Committee for the Office of State Court Administrator in Jefferson City, Mo.
Lohmar is a member of the St. Charles County Bar Association where he is a past president. He is a member of the Parkside Senior Citizens Retirement Center Board of Directors and was a past board president for the Jaycees Parkside Village. Judge Lohmar is a past congregational president and a current member of St. John United Church of Christ.
He has a Bachelor of Arts degree in history from Southeast Missouri State University and he earned his juris doctorate from St. Louis University School of Law.
Lohmar and his wife, Shirley, have one child (Timothy) and two grandchildren. They have lived in St. Charles County since 1972.
The six members of the Board of Trustees of St. Charles Community College are elected citizens who serve without pay. The board is charged with the duty of fostering and maintaining the overall welfare of the college as well as approving the annual budget and expenditures of funds.
St. Charles Community College is a public, comprehensive two-year community college with associate degrees and certificate programs in the arts, business, sciences, and career-technical fields.
