SCC's Lindstrom Receives National Award
Published: 10/28/2010
The awards were presented at the 2010 ACCT Community College Leadership Congress in Toronto, Canada, in October.
In nominating Lindstrom for the award, William Pundmann, president of SCC’s Board of Trustees, said, “It is her student-centered approach to teaching math and education, and her ease in working well with faculty, staff and administrators that make Joyce a valuable asset to the college, to our community and to the profession.”
“Joyce has been an outstanding member of SCC’s faculty for 22 years,” said John McGuire, SCC president. “She has been a national and statewide leader in developing innovative approaches to the teaching of mathematics.”
Lindstrom is a recognized leader at SCC, serving as both a teacher and mentor not only with students, but with colleagues as well. Currently a professor of math, she also developed and implemented SCC’s Education Program and served as the program’s coordinator for 20 years. She was involved in a statewide effort to create an Associate of Arts in Teaching degree to ensure a seamless transition to four-year programs and she is a leader in innovative approaches to improve student success in mathematics.
Lindstrom has a doctorate in education from the University of Missouri, a Master of Science Teaching degree, sponsored by the National Science Foundation, from Illinois Wesleyan University and a Bachelor of Arts from Bradley University.
