SCC Student Activities to Host Scary Movie Marathon Oct. 26-30

Movies will be shown at 7 p.m. Monday-Thursday, Oct. 26-29. The lecture and movie on Tuesday, Oct. 27 and Friday, Oct. 30, will begin at 6:30 p.m. The events are free and open to the public.
SCC SCARY MOVIE MARATHON SCHEDULE: (All movies begin at 7 p.m. unless otherwise noted.)
Monday, Oct. 26: Halloween (1978). The story centers on a psychotic murderer, Michael Myers, who escapes on a mindless rampage on Halloween night. Starring Jamie Lee Curtis. Because the film is rated R, all attendees under the age of 17 must be accompanied by an adult upon entry.
Tuesday, Oct. 27: What is Fear and Why Do We Love it? Mitch Harden, SCC adjunct instructor of psychology, will answer these questions and more in a brief lecture and presentation at 6:30 p.m., preceding the showing of The Shining. Harden will talk about the biology of emotions that has made the “scare” industry so popular.
Tuesday, Oct. 27: The Shining (1980). A family heads to an isolated hotel where an evil and spiritual presence influences the father into violence, while his psychic son sees horrific forebodings from the past and of the future. Starring Jack Nicholson and Shelley Duvall. Because the film is rated R, all attendees under the age of 17 must be accompanied by an adult upon entry.
Wednesday, Oct. 28: The Exorcism of Emily Rose (2005). The movie tells the story of a lawyer who defends a priest accused of negligence, resulting in the death of a young girl who is believed to be possessed. Starring Laura Linney, Tom Wilkinson, and Jennifer Carpenter. This film is rated PG-13.
Thursday, Oct. 29: The Uninvited (2009). A woman returns home to her sister after spending time in a mental hospital, though her recovery is jeopardized because of her cruel family and a ghost in their home. Starring Emily Browning, Arielle Kebbel, and Elizabeth Banks. This film is rated PG-13.
Friday, Oct. 30: The Haunting in Connecticut (2009). The evening’s events will begin at 6:30 p.m. with a lecture by Carmen Reed, the mom that lived in the haunted funeral home on which the movie The Haunting in Connecticut is based. Reed will discuss the haunting that inspired the movie. The movie, rated PG-13, will be shown directly following Reed’s lecture.
